Bless You!

IMG_0613.JPG

Thursday, 25 September 2014: One Year, One Hundred and Seventy Eight Days Old

Ayla has started saying “bless you!” and I’d completely forgotten to make mention here on the blog until today when I had a sneezing fit this morning.

I don’t know how Ayla picked it up – I guess from me saying “bless you” to her and “bless mummy” to myself when she or I have sneezed – but I hardly believed my ears last week when she proclaimed “bless you” to me!

I thought I may have misheard the first time but Ayla’s kept up her polite little blessing every time I or someone else has sneezed around her.

This morning Ayla dutifully said bless you after ever sneeze (and there was about five of them!) and her words were so clear it was a little unnerving!

I think it’s totally adorable though and it just goes to show how much Ayla understands about what’s going on around her. She’s such a clever little sausage…

Amazeballs

Monday, 23 June 2014: One Year and Twelve Weeks Old.

Ayla was paying more attention at The Wiggles yesterday than I realised!

On the way to day care this morning I decided to sing “hot potato”… and Ayla knew the actions!!

For only ever having heard the song once before, amidst a stack of other songs, I was shocked and stunningly impressed Ayla remembered!

When I sang the words “hot potato, hot potato” Ayla made little fists and banged them together, albeit in a clapping motion rather than a stacking one.

When I sang “cold spaghetti, cold spaghetti” Ayla waved her hands sideways in the air with little spirit fingers, so very close to the up and down waving action from the song.

And then when I sang “mashed banana, mashed banana” Ayla nailed it, opening her fingers wide, smashing her palms together and twisting them left and right with a cheeky grin on her face.

THEN! Just when I thought Ayla couldn’t get any more amazing, I caught her playing “round and round the garden” with herself!

Ayla was tickling her left palm with the fingers on her right, before touching her forearm, then her upper arm, then sticking her fingers under her arm in an attempt to tickle herself!

I squealed with delight and amazement! Then Ayla did it again… This time with her version of words!!

Gosh Ayla is amazing. So overwhelming, undeniably amazeballs.

Proper toddler

20140613-054222-20542438.jpg

Thursday, 12 June 2014: One Year and Seventy Two Days OldAyla is a proper toddler now!

She’s finally traded in crawling, nearly altogether, and now spends 98% of her time toddling around.

I didn’t think toddling could be so cute!

Ayla’s walk is half-waddle, with stiff little out turned legs that make her body sway slightly from side to side with each step.

And then there’s the bubble butt! Seeing Ayla’s little legs sticking out from her nappy covered tush is adorable, she looks like the cutest little white tailed bee in the world as she toddles about the house.

What really made me realise that Hubby and I now have a toddler on our hands was when Ayla mixed her walking with her words.

As Hubby and I watched from the couch Ayla toddled purposefully over to the kitchen and looked up at the benches.

After a moment or two Ayla then turned back to us and asked, with all the right tone and inflection, “water?”

It was as clear as day and as cute as a button. Hubby and I both melted with love and he got up to give our clever little sausage her water bottle.

Piggy tails

Thursday, 29 May 2014: One Year and Sixty Days Old.

I picked Ayla up today to discover piggy tails in her hair!!

Oh my gosh, it was adorable, and I think it might become Ayla’s customary ‘do.

It made me realise that day care is definitely shaping the person Ayla is becoming.

It’s a good thing, I think. If it weren’t for day care I probably wouldn’t have thought to try a pony tail, let alone piggy tails!

I guess sending Ayla today care is particularly useful because I have no idea or experience with anything child related.

For example I probably wouldn’t have thought to try finger painting with Ayla but apparently she loves it!

As good as day care is though, there’s a part of me, deep down, that is sad I’m not discovering these things on my own.

I would love to have seen Ayla’s face the first time she put her hands in a tub of paint, and it would have been so exciting to realise her hair was finally long enough to style!

But I guess it’s all part and parcel of modern day life. So few people are in a position to stay at home with their kids, and I have to remind myself how lucky I was to have a whole year at home.

Little helper

Friday, 24 May 2014: One Year and Fifty Three Days Old.

Ayla is such a little helper, it’s adorable.

This morning as we were getting ready for the day Ayla picked up a tissue and started wiping at some spilt water in the kitchen.

A little later Ayla had found a baby wipe and was pretending to blow her nose and wipe her face with it, complete with realistic sniffing sound effects.

While I putting on my make up in the bedroom Ayla was picking out shoes for me to wear, showing me each one she found as if to ask “these ones mum?”.

Then when the time came for me to put Ayla’s shoes on she wanted to do it all herself, but I settled for a compromise and let her try to do the left one while I did the right.

Cutest of all was this evening though when Ayla and I got home to discover a parcel of new little girls clothes sent to us from her Granddad.

Ayla, in true helper style, started trying to put them on… All of them… At once!

Ayla loved her new clothes so much that after realising she couldn’t wear them decided to kiss and hug instead, before trying to put them away in my handbag.

The never-ending cycle of cuteness

20140404-210308.jpg

Friday, 4 April 2014: One Year and Three Days Old.

How is it possible for Ayla to get even more cute every day?!

Each morning when Ayla wakes up it’s as if she’s become cuter overnight, and then when bedtime rolls around and I put her down to sleep I swear she’s cuter than she was that morning.

It’s a never ending cycle of cuteness and I can’t believe it’s so. Does every one feel like this with their babies?

Is it possible that Ayla might become simply too cute for me to handle and I’ll implode with delight?

Or will the cute-o-meter explode before I do and Ayla will become, dare I say it, ordinary?

Surely that could never be the case but Hubby and I have definitely won the ultimate lucky dip prize; Ayla is clever, friendly, easygoing, kind, funny AND adorably and irresistibly cute… Trifecta!… Twice!

PS – how adorable is Ayla in this pic!? She’s wearing a headband and leggings from Melbourne children’s designer Kapow Kids that we won in a Facebook competition.

When we went to music class today we were only there for five minutes before someone commented on how cute Ayla looked, so maybe it’s not just me after all!

Mini maestro

Here’s the video of Ayla playing the miniature grand piano Hubby and I gave her for her first birthday!

She loves it! Maybe we have a prodigy in the making?

Or maybe Hubby and I will just have a strange ringing sound in our ears for for ever more!
