Winners!

Saturday, 15 March 2014: Three Hundred and Forty Eight Days Old.

Our house is full of winners today!!

Hubby won his charity boxing fight, our babysitter won our trust and Baby Ayla won yet another gold star from her Mum and Dad.

It was fantastic to have a stress- free adult night out with our friends, even though it didn’t quite start out like that!

The babysitter turned up 5 mins early and we took her through Ayla’s dinner, her bedtime routine and most importantly, how to use the TV.

We all moved out the front to wait for a taxi we’d booked the day before but it never came.

As the clocked ticked closer and closer to the event starting time and Hubby got more and more anxious, we made nearly ten calls to the company who kept sending us new taxis, to no avail.

After half an hour of waiting we asked the babysitter to drive us and within seconds we were all bundled into my little hatch heading to the fight.

We arrived and jumped out of the car, gave Ayla a kiss and told her to be good then waved as the babysitter drove off in my car with our baby in the back!

I figured if I could do that then I had nothing much else to worry about for the night, and I was right!!

The babysitter text as soon she got back to our house, and then again when Ayla went to sleep around 8pm, just like normal.

Knowing that Ayla was safe at home, tucked up in bed, meant I was free to cheer Hubby on til I was hoarse!

We came home around 11.30pm and Ayla had just woken up. We found her cuddling into the babysitter on the couch, which meant we got to give her proper goodnight kisses and cuddles.

It was a great night.

The babysitter

Thursday, 13 March 2014: Three Hundred and Forty Six Days Old.

We met and decided on Ayla’s “official” baby sitter today.

Until now Ayla’s only ever been babysat three times, by friends and never at our house.

But this Saturday night Hubby is competing in a charity boxing event that Ayla can’t attend so it’ll be our first time leaving her at home with a near-stranger!

I spent the last couple of weeks talking to and researching all kids of sitters, from clubs to students, and had settled on a girl who was recommended by a friend of a friend who works in child protection.

But the day before yesterday our sitter cancelled and suggested I try a girl she knows in Year 12, but it just didn’t feel right and I wasn’t sure.

Then in a stroke of good luck my neighbour text me a photo of a flyer she’d found at the local shops for a nanny/babysitter with a long list of qualifications.

I called her up – Lori’s her name – and I explained we were first-timers and a little nervous.

Lori seemed lovely and she seemed to understand our concerns, so offered to come over to introduce herself and put our minds at ease.

So that’s what happened this afternoon and at ease we are.

Ayla and Lori got along great and Hubby and I clicked with her straight away.

It’s exciting to know that I’m now set for a fun night out on Saturday and hopefully I won’t worry too much about my baby girl… Goodness knows I’ll be worried enough about Hubby!

PS – if you think Ayla’s adorable please vote for her in the Bonds Babies Search, Australia’s biggest baby photo comp!

C’mon, who wouldn’t wanna see that face on a billboard! Click here to vote

Balance

Sunday, 26 May 2013: Fifty-Five Days Old.

I think I managed to find just the right amount of balance between parenting and partying last night.

As hard as it was to leave Ayla behind I knew she was in good hands and that freed me up to relax and have fun.

The music festival was great (having VIP tickets helped!) and it was fantastic to be around wonderful, supportive friends who I could just be myself with.

I think I did pretty well with keeping the Ayla talk to a minimum, and during the odd moment of withdrawal I took a deep breath and somehow managed to leave my phone in my pocket.

After a few hours though, I was excited to get back and pick up my little girl.

We found Ayla peacefully asleep on the babysitters shoulder, all rugged up in her little purple wondersuit.

She’d never looked so beautiful 🙂

Babysitter

Saturday, 25 May 2013: Fifty-Four Days Old.

I’ve spent the last two weeks preparing myself for today… When we leave Ayla with a babysitter for the first time!

I’m sure I’ve packed way too much stuff, defrosted way too much milk and will leave way too many instructions, but you just never know!

The “babysitter” is a friend of ours we’ve know for years who lives right next door to one of our best mates, and just up the road from the music festival we’re going too.

She’s also a part time professional babysitter, so I know I have nothing to worry about.

But still…….!
