Winter woolies

20140616-195359-71639398.jpg

Monday, 16 June 2014: One Year and Eleven Weeks Old.

Ayla went off to day care wearing her winter woolies today.

It was the coldest morning we’re likely to get all year – 17.4 degrees at 7.30am – and there was no better reason to rug up.

What made the chilly occasion even more special was the fact that only yesterday Hubby and I splurged on a few warm clothes, jumpers, a cardigan, a vest and some jeans for Baby Ayla.

The clothes were intended for our family trip to Melbourne next week, but Ayla got to don her little pink jumper ten days early…. Much to Mumma’s delight!

I don’t think there’s many things cuter than a rugged up baby, and seeing Ayla toddling around in her jumper and skinny jeans this morning melted my heart.

Passion for fashion

Sunday, 25 May 2014: One Year and Fifty Three Days Old.

Ayla’s developing a passion for fashion and I think the only thing stopping her from walking at home was a pair of sparkly shoes!!

This afternoon Ayla came crawling out of her room a hundred miles an hour dragging a t-shirt that she brought straight to me, handing it over expectedly.

I asked Ayla if she wanted me to help her put the shirt on to which she replied with a shriek and a smile.

I pulled the shirt over her head and buttoned it up at the shoulder; Ayla then stood back and grabbed at it , looking down as if to check that it looked alright!!

Then later this evening Ayla was playing quietly in her room, almost too quietly, so I stuck my head in to check on her.

I saw Ayla sitting on the floor surrounded by shoes, her shoe draw open, and she was trying to put a little pink sandal on her foot.

Ayla caught a glimpse of me and immediately held out the shoe so I could help her with it.

With one shoe on we went looking for the matching other, then when they were both on Ayla held my hands and charged out to the lounge room to show her Daddy.

After a brief parade she took me back into her room and selected a new pair of shoes, which again I helped her put on and she again showed them off to her Dad.

The third pair of shoes were sequinned, sparkly black slippers and Ayla seemed to like them the most.

She was almost running down the hall to show her Dad and when she finally got to him Ayla started stomping her feet, almost as if she was tap dancing with excitement.

Then I let her go.

Ayla walked the whole way down the hall by herself, and then back again.

Then she walked around the lounge to her toys.

It was as if all the encouragement Ayla needed to walk at home was a pair of pretty shoes, which of course is completely understandable… It’s amazing what a gorgeous pair of shoes can achieve 😉

Little helper

Friday, 24 May 2014: One Year and Fifty Three Days Old.

Ayla is such a little helper, it’s adorable.

This morning as we were getting ready for the day Ayla picked up a tissue and started wiping at some spilt water in the kitchen.

A little later Ayla had found a baby wipe and was pretending to blow her nose and wipe her face with it, complete with realistic sniffing sound effects.

While I putting on my make up in the bedroom Ayla was picking out shoes for me to wear, showing me each one she found as if to ask “these ones mum?”.

Then when the time came for me to put Ayla’s shoes on she wanted to do it all herself, but I settled for a compromise and let her try to do the left one while I did the right.

Cutest of all was this evening though when Ayla and I got home to discover a parcel of new little girls clothes sent to us from her Granddad.

Ayla, in true helper style, started trying to put them on… All of them… At once!

Ayla loved her new clothes so much that after realising she couldn’t wear them decided to kiss and hug instead, before trying to put them away in my handbag.

Tempted

Sunday, 2 February 2014: Three Hundred and Eight Days Old.

Ayla and I headed to Byron Bay with her Grandad today where we meandered our way along aisles and aisles of creatively crafty market stalls.

I have never been very interested in shopping, let alone actually buying things, but today I found myself tempted by so many gorgeous baby girl things that I hardly knew myself!

Crafty people seem to know the “mothers of daughters” target market too well and I assume it’s strategy that has them putting the cutest little dresses, the prettiest flower garlands and pinkest miniature sunhats on display at the front of their stalls.

I can only imagine how much harder it,s going to be to say “no” when Ayla can walk and talk and beg me into buying her things she certainly doesn’t need but both of us desperately want!

But I was proud of my resistance today and after returning to the car with just two tops and a dress I was pleased to know that those few items will surely be the source of many an “awwwww” when we go home.

“He”?!

20140117-170222.jpg

Thursday, 16 January 2014: Two Hundred and Ninety One Days Old.

Ayla has been getting mistaken for a boy!

I don’t know if it’s because she’s almost always shirtless with just a nappy on, or if maybe it’s because Ayla’s hair is has somehow grown itself into a darn near perfect short back and sides.

But regardless, I even had a workman call Ayla a “he” yesterday… and she was in the bath!

It’s funny how upset I’ve been getting about it. I mean, I know it’s sometimes hard to tell the difference between boys and girls when they’re just little babies but surely Baby Ayla is girly?!

Isn’t she?!

It’s driven me to put Ayla in pink shirts more often now, and to dress her as prettily as possible when we go out, simply because I can’t bear the thought of someone else stopping me in the street to say “ohhhh, isn’t HE cute”!

I am also hoping Ayla’s straight blonde locks have a growth spurt soon so that I can give up on the fight against headbands and try out some pretty clips or something.

I know it’s silly and I really shouldn’t care – Ayla certainly doesn’t – but to me Ayla is a perfect porcelain princess and I want the world to see it too!

Eat and sleep

Wednesday, 6 November 2013: Two Hundred and Nineteen Days Old.

I think Baby Ayla is going through another growth spurt because all she’s done today is eat and sleep.

It’s actually worked out pretty well for me though because I’ve been running around the house getting ready for our interstate trip tomorrow and Sleeping Ayla is very low maintenance compared to Awake Ayla.

Ayla’s probably due for a growth spurt to..

At seven and a bit months old Ayla still hasn’t cracked the eight kilo mark and she’s still wearing size 000 clothes (except on the bottom though where her chubby legs call for a size 0!)

She’s healthy and growing well, loves her milk and is slowing learning to eat food instead of play with it, but its like her body needs to catch up to her mind.

Ayla is so smart! I know everyone says that about their kids, but Ayla knows exactly what’s going on and what it means for her.

Not a day goes by that I don’t find myself shocked by her cheekiness or her cleverness and I can see she’s right on the cusp of becoming a walking, talking cuteness machine!

In for the long haul

20131030-214517.jpg

Wednesday, 30 October 2013; Two Hundred and Twelve Days Old.

Ayla and I ventured out to the shops for supplies today…. We’re in for the long haul.

It’s been two weeks and still Ayla’s nappy rash hasn’t cleared. We’ve been back to the doctors a couple of times but she assures me we’re doing everything we can.

So, in order to get some sort if normality back I stocked up on baby undies (I think they’re supposed to be nappy covers) and a couple of t-shirts.

Up until now I’ve mostly dressed Baby Ayla in pretty little frocks, but a shirt and undies are much easier for on-the-go changes now that Ayla’s nappy-less.

And of course Ayla was a good girl so she got to pick out a toy as well… It’s really not hard to spend a hundred bucks when your shopping for baby!
