The Show!

Friday, 25 July 2014: One Year, One Hundred and Sixteen Days Old.

We took Ayla to the Royal Show today and all three of us had a ball!!

The livestock, as always, was a highlight and Ayla bravely patted goats, emu chicks and cattle but she seemed to like the two little piglets the best.

We also stopped to watch the Mouse Circus for a while that had Ayla’s head turning like it was on a swivel.

Ayla napped in the pram while Hubby and I checked out the arts, crafts and cookery pavilion and stuffed our faces with corn on the cob and dagwood dogs.

When Ayla woke up it was time to hit sideshow alley where she and Hubby had a ride on a kids carousel that left them both a little dizzy!

Ayla had a go on the “catch a duck” game where she pulled a rubber duck out of the water using a fishing net almost all by herself, and chose a weird brown bug toy as her prize.

Ayla also had a go at the clowns where she put all five ping pong balls expertly down the throat of a scary-looking clown, consequently winning her favourite prize of the day, a tiny little cartoon pig.

Hubby won $30 cash at the bottle smash game, and then killed it on the dogems while Ayla screeched and laughed and waved to him from the sidelines.

We finished off the day with show bags, Ayla choosing the Dora show bag because it had a hat and hats are her new thing.

When I say she chose, I mean it! I took Ayla to the stand and asked her which one she wanted. Ayla looked at them all then said “hat” and patted her head.

The only show bag on display with a hat in it was Dora the Explorer and when I clarified “do you want the one with the hat Ayla?” she pointed straight at it and started bobbing up and down excitedly in my arms.

Kids party

Saturday 24 May 2014: one Year and Fifty Three Days Old.
Ayla went to her first kids party today, and I’m sure it was only the first of countless kids birthdays that will become part of the weekend landscape for Hubby and I.

Our friends have a now three year old daughter and a now one year old son with birthdays just a fortnight apart, and today Ayla joined them to celebrate, play with friends, eat ice cream cake and play party games!

There was also a petting zoo at the party that kept most of the kids busy, although Ayla seemed a little tentative when she went in with her Daddy.

It might have just been all the excitement in the air that made Ayla think twice about touching the bunnies and bantams on Hubby lap, but she certainly loved watching the other kids squeal with delight as they cuddled little furry bundles of joy.

Ayla watched on intently as the bigger kids played pass the parcel, and looked like she wanted to jump in and blow out the candles when the cake came out.

Ayla also joined in a game of musical statues, squealing in disappointment whenever the music stopped!

After a fun couple of hours it eventually became time to go so we bundled a tired little baby Ayla out of the house with a lolly-box under one arm and a balloon tied to the other.

Precious

Thursday, 20 March 2014: Three Hundred and Fifty Three Days Old.

Ayla learned how to give a massaaaaaage today.

On our way back to the hotel after our morning walking Ayla fell asleep on Hubby’s head again so I seized the opportunity and snuck in for a massage while he put her to bed in our room.

But in staying true to Murphy’s Law Ayla decided she didn’t actually want a nap at all (she must have been “faking” her sleep on Dad’s shoulders!) and I was only about half way through my massage when Hubby and Ayla peeled back the curtain.

Ayla was a little frightened at first I think, watching a strange lady poke and prod her Mummy but after a little while Ayla worked out “if you can’t fight ’em, join ’em!”

With Hubby on the massage mattress beside me, Ayla kept swapping between us helping the massage lady out; if I was getting massaged on my legs, Ayla would be at my legs slapping and pulling at the skin, and when the lady was doing my shoulders Ayla thought it would be funny to tickle me under my arms!

The result was one oil, slippery, happy but tired little baby and not surprisingly when Ayla actually went down for a nap she was slept for a good couple of hours.

When Ayla resurfaced we headed to some night time beach markets at Patong Beach that we had passed yesterday on our way to Fantasea.

It was great! There was everything from carnival games, to shopping stalls, a jumping castle, live music and what seems to be the Thai equivalent of takeaway food… Meat on a stick.

We had a fantastic evening, stuffing our faces with random delicacies, shopping up a storm and having fun with the games.

Hubby even won Ayla a couple of stuffed toys and I’ll never forget seeing her hang off my hip holding on to one of the prizes like it was the most precious, sacred thing in the world.

Chasey

Tuesday, 18 February 2014: Three Hundred and Twenty Three Days Old.

Ayla and I had our first game of chasey today.

It was adorable and painful; I don’t know how Ayla’s little knees handle the tiles all day long!

It started off with us crawling around on the floor chasing after one of Ayla’s toys and it wasn’t long before the game escalated.

Ayla was like a bundle of pure happiness, squealing and screeching at the top of her lungs each time she took off on all fours, as if she were a knight screaming “charge!” just moments before her horse rears and bolts.

It cracked me up how excited Ayla was, her little hands and knees were moving at warp speed but regardless of how quickly or loudly they slapped the tiles Ayla wasn’t moving any faster.

It was as if Ayla simply couldn’t control the enegery and hype inside herself and her joy was definitely contagious.

After a little while, when my knees couldn’t handle the pressure any more, Ayla and I collapsed together in a big bear hug on the floor where we covered each other in wet slobbery kisses and tickles. Bliss.

Supermarket Peekaboo

I just remembered this video from the weekend (before we were both sick)!

We were grocery shopping and Ayla got the giggles whenever I put something in the trolley and looked at her.

A cute game of supermarket peekaboo ensued… It’s amazing how little you care what other people think when you’re being silly for your baby!

*** apologies for the crappy sound! Make sure your volume’s up and there’s no background noise nearby!***

Peekaboo

20130810-204441.jpg

Saturday, 10 August 2013: One Hundred and Thirty One Days Old.

Ayla had her first proper game of peekaboo today and it had her in stitches!

Ayla laughs like a little old man. Her face nearly splits in two with a massive smile and she makes a hearty “hah – hah” noise that has her shoulders shrugging up and down with each “hah”.

So today, when Hubby started playing peekaboo with a towel all three of us ended up laughing; Ayla at the game, and Hubby and I at her laugh.

I just wanted to eat her!

It amazes me every day how the simplest of activities are so incredible to Ayla and peekaboo was no exception.
