Chow-down machine

20140403-202004.jpg

Thursday, 3 April 2014: One Year and Two Days Old.

Ayla must be having a growth spurt or something because she has been putting away food like a champion!

Today Ayla has eaten a bowl of porridge with yogurt, two strawberries, a fish cake, a wedge of beetroot, a sprig of asparagus and some corn off the cob, two grapes, a small slice of pear, two diced up cubes of satay pork, a tablespoon of rice and some chocolate baby custard.

What’s more, in addition to all the food she’s eaten Ayla has still managed to indulge in five breast feeds and a bottle of water!

I can’t help but wonder if Ayla’s recent transformation into a chow-down machine is related to her being unable to eat for the eight days she was sick.

I’m also wondering if Ayla’s apparently insatiable appetite is the reason behind her unsettled sleeps at night, which are slowly but surely starting to drive me crazy.

Maybe Ayla’s making up for lost calories, maybe she’s having a one year old growth spurt or maybe her body is just finally calling for more sustenance than milk can provide, but whatever it is Ayla’s one hungry little pork chop, pumpkin pie, sausage, err…. Kid!

Eat and sleep

Wednesday, 6 November 2013: Two Hundred and Nineteen Days Old.

I think Baby Ayla is going through another growth spurt because all she’s done today is eat and sleep.

It’s actually worked out pretty well for me though because I’ve been running around the house getting ready for our interstate trip tomorrow and Sleeping Ayla is very low maintenance compared to Awake Ayla.

Ayla’s probably due for a growth spurt to..

At seven and a bit months old Ayla still hasn’t cracked the eight kilo mark and she’s still wearing size 000 clothes (except on the bottom though where her chubby legs call for a size 0!)

She’s healthy and growing well, loves her milk and is slowing learning to eat food instead of play with it, but its like her body needs to catch up to her mind.

Ayla is so smart! I know everyone says that about their kids, but Ayla knows exactly what’s going on and what it means for her.

Not a day goes by that I don’t find myself shocked by her cheekiness or her cleverness and I can see she’s right on the cusp of becoming a walking, talking cuteness machine!

Struggling to keep up

20130706-111038.jpg

Friday, 5 July 213: Ninety-Five Days Old.

Ayla must be having another growth spurt I think, she’s been feeding hourly and I’m struggling to keep up!

It’s to be expected I guess; she’s developed so much in the past week that now it’s time for her body to do the same.

But, I’m worried if I’m giving her all she needs, and enough of it. Ayla’s still exclusively breastfed and I’m pushing myself to drink at least 5 litres of water a day so that there’s enough milk by bed time.

But, good ol’ “Mummy Guilt” prevails and still I am riddled with self doubt;

– Do I have enough milk?
– Is it a growth spurt or is she starving?
– What’s wrong with formula?
– Should I try her on it?
– When?
– HOW?!
– If I do, then my milk will surely dry up, won’t it?

ARGH! So many questions and no right or wrong answer! Some tough decisions ahead I think.
