The stars align

20140529-200603-72363907.jpg

Wednesday, 28 May 2014: One Year and Fifty Nine Days Old.

There’s absolutely no question about how being a mum has changed me.

In so many ways I see the world more clearly, I’m more conscious of myself and I feel like I can relate more to people around me.

I also feel stronger, calmer and more resilient and I find myself turning to focus on what matters instead of how a situation came to be.

Best of all about my mummy-transformation is that it’s happened while Hubby has been by my side.

He too has grown and changed, and together we find ourselves to be confident in our partnership, our goals and where we’re headed.

Of course we attribute a lot, if not all, of this newfound wisdom to Baby Ayla, who in all her innocence had opened our eyes to happiness and contentment in its purest form.

It’s hard to tell if we’ve been uniquely blessed or if there’s been a few strange twists of fate that have made the stars align for us, but we certainly know what we have is special and we’re not going to let a single thing ruin it.

Second Mothers Day

20140513-214623.jpg

Sunday, 11 May 2014: One Year and Forty One Days Old.

I can’t believe today was my second Mothers Day.

It feels so different to last year when Ayla was only six weeks new, brown haired and floppy necked and so very fragile and pure.

This year however, knowing it’s my second Mothers Day, I feel as though I should know what I’m doing but of course I clearly don’t!

Every day with Ayla is like a whole new world, and I just have to think back twelve months ago to realise how much we’ve changed… Both of us.

Being my second Mothers Day also took some of the shine away (already!) but we had a lovely day nonetheless.

And although it wasn’t my first Mothers Day I was lucky enough to receive my first homemade presents from Ayla and I will treasure them for many more Mothers Days to come.

First birthday

20140401-205639.jpg

Tuesday, 1 April 2014: One Year Old.

I think Ayla’s had a pretty good first birthday!

We got up late and had a big breaky, then headed to a kids play gym for a catch up with some of Ayla’s little friends.

Ayla had a ball in the “big kids” section, and she even had her first ride in a coin operated machine!

After a big nap at home it was off to day care for a few hours in the afternoon where the day care mums made a big fuss.

One of the best parts of the day was when Daddy came home from work and we all relaxed in the pool and shared stories of our day.

Just before dinner it was time for presents and my gosh were there lots!

From a trike to a peg-puzzle, from an artwork for her wall to some gorgeous clothes and more, Ayla was rolling in gifts.

Hubby and I gave Ayla a miniature grand piano and the look on her face when she worked out how to play it was absolutely priceless!

Ayla banged away on the piano keys like a mini maestro for ages, and a no matter how many times we tried to distract her within seconds she was back to play some more.

Ayla’s first birthday ended, of course, with a birthday cake complete with a “1” candle, a happy birthday song and lots of kisses.

First Christmas

20131225-202142.jpg

Wednesday, 25 December 2013: Two Hundred and Sixty Eight Days Old.

Well, I think it’s safe to say Ayla’s first Christmas was a huge success.

The day started off with a sleep in (I know, awesome!) til 8.30 then Ayla was up and ready to see if Santa had come.

And he had!

Ayla’s stocking was full of little nic-nacs and there were presents oozing out from under the tree, we didn’t know where to start!

I think I even had myself believing in Santa’s magic again, even if just for a moment or two, as I walked Ayla around the tree explaining what had happened overnight.

Ayla is a very lucky girl indeed! From Santa she got a bucket of shaped blocks and a very cool push-along walker toy, and in her stocking was a couple of teething toys, a Schleich Shetland pony, some bubbles and a book about colours.

From her Mummy and Daddy, Ayla got a ladybug bouncing ball, a pop-up book called “Little Tadpoles Big Surprise”, a tambourine drum and a set of crayons with an art pad.

From friends and family Ayla got everything from gorgeous outfits to stuffed animals, from electronic learning toys to books and games.

Ayla even received a pair of genuine Baby Raybans and a beautiful butterfly bracelet engraved with her name.

Although most of our family is interstate, thanks to the wonders of FaceTime we were able to include them in our Christmas morning as they watched Ayla open her gifts.

It was great to know that despite thousands of kilometres they could still share in Ayla first Christmas, and see her face light up as her presents were unwrapped.

But after the gift giving, unwrapping and thanking was over we were off to our neighbours house for a street-party champagne breakfast, complete with bacon and eggs!

The afternoon was spent cleaning up and getting ready to go away on holidays tomorrow, and from evening to night we gorged ourselves leftovers while relaxing the couch with a wine, watching our little Baby Ayla play with her new toys.

Paper? What paper?!

20131224-143357.jpg

Monday, 23 December 2013 Thirty Eight Weeks Old.

Everyone’s been telling me that at Ayla’s age she’ll be more interested in the paper than the presents on Christmas morning, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to beg to differ!

We had some friends pop over tonight for a Christmas Eve Eve celebration and they came bearing a gift for Baby Ayla.

Just like when she opened her gift from “Aunty” Ali the other day, Ayla was quick to realise there was a goodie hidden inside the crinkly stuff with Santa’s printed on it.

As soon as Ayla saw a glimmer of the sparkling FisherPrice fish tank she was mesmerised, staring at the piece of present peeking out beneath the wrapping.

I had to help her peel the paper back further, and once Ayla saw the whole gift she started squealing and bobbing up and down in delight.

Paper? What paper!?

It might have just been that Ayla’s “Aunty” Kez and “Uncle” Collie nailed the gift selection, or it could be a sign of things to come.

And that on Christmas morning in two days time, we can expect our little house to be filled with gorgeous wide eyes and adorable shrieks of excitement as Ayla opens her presents.

Shiny gold star

20131123-165355.jpg

Saturday, 23 November 2013: Two Hundred and Thirty Seven Days Old.

All I want to do is grab Ayla and give her a cuddle, a kiss, look into her eyes, tell her I love her, and give her a shiny gold star… anything and everything to make her understand how grateful I am for her.

I thought I knew what it was to be happy and feel blessed, but the light Ayla puts in my life is like no other.

I don’t know if it’s because Ayla’s such a good baby or if it’s just part and parcel of being a mum, but I am so proud of her and so thankful she’s my daughter.

Ayla is clever, and kind, and patient. She’s friendly, playful and happy. She’s wise and innocent and modest all at the same time. She’s vulnerable but strong, adaptable, generous, honest…. Ayla is everything I hope I can be one day and she’s not even eight months old yet!

Just like when I look at Hubby sometimes and I think my heart will burst, every time I’ve looked at Ayla these past twenty four hours in particular I almost believe my chest is about to explode and shoot out tonnes of sparkling, rainbow coloured happy-love-dust.

I really am blessed. I am lucky. I am grateful. I am thankful. I am not taking any of this for granted and I am appreciating and valuing every moment I have with my beautiful baby girl and my wonderful little family.

A whole new level

20131020-193053.jpg

Saturday, 19 October 2013: Two Hundred and Two Days Old.

Ayla took “happy” to a whole new level today.

All I had to do was look at her and Ayla would give me a huge grin, talk to her and she’d laugh, tickle her and she’d be hysterical.

It was like she was a different kid; a little ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds.

I’m putting it down to the massive improvement we’ve seen in her nappy rash, and the fact that she’s been sleeping better at night since the nappy came off.

I can’t believe how lucky I am to have such a happy, loving, friendly and forgiving angel for a daughter.

Eating feet

20131016-084432.jpg

Tuesday, 15 October 2013: One Hundred and Ninety Eight Days Old.

Ayla discovered her feet weeks ago, but today she started eating them.

Argh – So cute!! I love my Baby Ayla so much and to watch her learn about the world is just the best thing ever.

Lately Ayla’s learned or done
something new every day and its just so exciting; she’s literally growing in front of my eyes.

I’m so lucky to have this time with Ayla and I’m grateful that I live in a country where I can enjoy special moments like this without worrying about things that shouldn’t matter, like money.

I know staying at home with a baby doesn’t work for everyone, but for me it’s one of the most special times in my life.

Every morning I wake up excited to find out a little bit more about who my Baby Ayla is as a person, and I relish her little discoveries like this one today.

Jackpot

20130815-205408.jpg

Thursday, 15 August 2013: One Hundred and Thirty Five Days Old.

How on earth did I get the jackpot?!

Ayla lights up my day, every day. And how could she not when she has a cheeky grin like that?

And my Hubby makes me happier than anyone; he’s strong, passionate and loyal, and he’s literally my other half.

Someone I follow on Instagram (@msjessitay) described her family like this today;

“My daughters heart beats because of him”

And I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Before Ayla, I used to hear people talk about “doing anything for their family” but I didn’t really understand.

Now I do.

My little family gives me so much joy, happiness and courage. I can’t imagine life without them and I would do anything in return.

My heart would burst

20130729-214031.jpg

Monday, 29 July, 2013: Seventeen Weeks Old.

Before Ayla, I thought my heart would burst with all the love I have for my Hubby and I was worried about how the love for a baby could possibly fit!

But love really does expand – it’s not at all like a bucket that fills with water and spills out, wasting what’s precious.

My heart still wants to burst, but even more than before!

Even though I love my baby girl with everything I am – I just can’t get enough of her – I still love my Hubby like a flower loves its soil or a snail loves its shell.

My Hubby is my other half and Ayla is my light. I am so, so, so lucky to have them in my life.
