Monday, 19 May 2014: One Year and Seven Weeks Old.
I found out today that Ayla has been walking around heaps at day care!
Although I’d know Ayla had taken a few steps last week, when I picked her up today the day care mums greeted me with excited claims that Ayla was now properly walking.
Of course I couldn’t wait to get home and see Ayla out her new skills in action but alas, at home Ayla seems perfectly content on all fours.
Throughout the afternoon and evening Ayla keep standing and clapping, but still no steps.
Then when we went out for a swim before dinner Ayla walked the whole length of the patio holding on to her Daddy’s hand with the biggest smile on her face.
My heart melted and a took a moment to record the memory in my brain forever; a tiny little blonde haired, chubby legged Baby Ayla, holding on tight to get Daddy’s weathered hand, both of them oozing pride and happiness like I’ve never seen before.
Sunday, 15 December 2013: Two Hundred and Fifty Eight Days Old.
Sunday morning is the most special time of the week for us.
When Ayla wakes up, Hubby lets me lie in bed for a few moments longer and goes to get Ayla up.
While I listen through the monitor, Hubby and Ayla chat away while he changes her nappy and gives her cuddles.
Then he brings her to our room.
As soon as Ayla sees me from the doorway a giant smile spreads across her face and she reaches out for me with both hands.
Hubby brings her into bed and Ayla tucks in under the covers, her Daddy on one side and her Mummy on the other.
I think if there was a way to measure the amount of love in a room, our would be off the charts.
With sleepy eyes, no rush to get up and certainly no place we’d rather be, the three of us share stories of our dreams and plans and wait for our rumbling tummies to drive us up and out to face the day.
Tuesday, 22 October 3013: Two Hundred and Four Days Old.
Ayla really loves her mummy… Me.
It melts my heart when Ayla reaches for me as I walk past, her little hands trying to grab any part of me they can just so that I’ll pause a moment near her.
And sometimes Ayla will start to squirm and cry for no apparent reason until I pick her up.
It’s then that Ayla throws her arms around me and stills in silence; all my baby wanted was a cuddle from her mummy.
Ayla’s also been practising her kisses I think, and there’s nothing more adorable than that.
Ayla grabs my face with both hands, opens her mouth and dives in, nuzzling my cheek and slobbering everywhere in a way that says “I love you” like nothing else in this world.
“I love you too Ayla Rose” xx
Tuesday, 15 October 2013: One Hundred and Ninety Eight Days Old.
Ayla discovered her feet weeks ago, but today she started eating them.
Argh – So cute!! I love my Baby Ayla so much and to watch her learn about the world is just the best thing ever.
Lately Ayla’s learned or done
something new every day and its just so exciting; she’s literally growing in front of my eyes.
I’m so lucky to have this time with Ayla and I’m grateful that I live in a country where I can enjoy special moments like this without worrying about things that shouldn’t matter, like money.
I know staying at home with a baby doesn’t work for everyone, but for me it’s one of the most special times in my life.
Every morning I wake up excited to find out a little bit more about who my Baby Ayla is as a person, and I relish her little discoveries like this one today.
Tuesday, 23 July 2013: One Hundred and Thirteen Days Old.
Baby Ayla has just started rolling over!
I thought she did it yesterday but I couldn’t be sure, then today I saw her with my own eyes!
I’m not certain if Ayla’s rolling over is deliberate or accidental at this stage, but I definitely watched her rolled from her back to her stomach and over onto her back again.
Friday, 19 July 2013: One Hundred and Nine Days Old.
Ayla is almost standing but she can’t even sit up yet, let alone crawl!
Whenever she stands Ayla looks at me wide-eyed with surprised excitement on her face… As if she’s trying to squeal “Look Mum! I’m doing this! I’m actually doing this!”
Ayla also lifts her shoulders and sticks her arms out to try and get her balance, but secretly I think she might be trying fly like a superhero.
I googled “babies standing” and apparently it’s not uncommon for three month old babies to try it. But, I can’t quite work out if they do it to copy us, or if its some sort of development reflex.
Either way, its super cute and I like to think Ayla’s something special! 😉
NOTE: By the time we got the camera out for this photo she’d had enough and wanted to sit down (that’s why she looks like she’s in mid collapse)
Saturday, 18 May 2013: Forty-Seven Days Old.
I assume its polite for people to tell new mums that their baby’s something special, but I reckon Ayla really is.
Apart from all the goo’s and gaa’s we get when we’re out and about, and the many countless people (men and women) who are drawn to her, Ayla seems to make people to feel happy.
And, I’ve been told it’s not just her cute looks and good nature!
I’ve had people tell me she’s not like other babies; that there ‘s something different about her that makes her special.
I even had one lady tell me that Ayla has a wonderful “energy” that made her just want to be nearby.
It’s probably just the right thing to say… But I’m convinced 🙂
